As my bio states, I've been teaching Zumba since March 2010 but what it doesn't say is that I began my journey with Christina Vasquez and Bella Ghita Fitness as a a contracter. When I first started, I thought I was too old to teach Zumba but she convinced me that I could do it and that I would find my niche and the participants who would appreciate and enjoy my style of teaching. I was doubtful at first but now I can say she was right. It's been a long and satisfying experience, fraught with changes, ups and downs, drama galore and wonderful surprises. We had an amazing team at Bella Ghita: different ages and backgrounds and lifestyles. But we meshed together as a team and supported each other. Our weekly practices and performances were a highlight of my week. But, as they say, all good things must come to an end and so Christina made the tough, painful decision to close the compamy. It was the right thing to do. She was going back to school and needed to forge her own path and career. But, what about me?? Was I ready to go out on my own and be in charge of my Zumba destiny?
And the answer was a resounding YES! I've been in marketing and promotion for over 25 years and now, it was time to market a product that I was most familiar with: Me! Here was my opportunity to start building my "Zumba Empire"...well, certainly company anyway. I think "Zumba with Genny" has a nice ring to it, don't you? I miss being a part of Bella Ghita and miss seeing everyone on a regular basis. But I know we'll never lose touch with one another and will always be there.
It's a start and as I continue to move along this journey of discovery and Zumba love, I look forward to an exciting future ahead. And here I go!
